Black Panther Review

Hello, and welcome once again to another edition of my Review series. If you read the title, you should already know this article in on Black Panther, which released in the United States last Friday, February 16th. The 2-hour-and-14-minute movie stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/ Black Panther, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Stevens/ Killmonger, Lupita N’yongo as Nakia, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Forrest Whittaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu. Remember, there will be MAJOR SPOILERS for Black Panther. Anyways, let’s get into it.

Now, this is where I would typically talk about my favorite character from the movie, but honestly, I just can’t pick one. T’Challa, of course, was the star of the show. Killmonger was one of the few Marvel Movie villains that I haven’t thought was two-dimensional because both his backstory and references back to his backstory were very well executed. Okoye, Shuri, Queen Ramonda, and Nakia were fantastic female leads and will hopefully inspire a whole generation of young African-American women. The two white characters, Klaue and Ross, were used in very interesting analogies for how many nationalistic white people treat people of color. Even two of the minor supporting characters, Zuri and M’Baku, played very important roles to the end of the movie; Zuri’s death is a catalyst for T’Challa’s motivation to defeat Killmonger, and M’Baku’s army ends up turning the tide in favor of T’Challa.

However, my least favorite character has to be W’Kabi. As much as I liked Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out, I really wasn’t a fan of the direction W’Kabi went in this movie. In the comics, W’Kabi was always the incredibly loyal best friend of T’Challa. In the movie, he started out as the level-headed confidant, but once Killmonger took the Wakandan throne, he very surprisingly switched to Killmonger’s side. It seemed like a very out-of-character move, even though we hadn’t seen much of him. Eventually, though, he saw the light and rejoined T’Challa by the end of the film after Killmonger had died, with surprisingly no consequences.

Even with the few faults it had, Black Panther was a truly fantastic movie, with an entertaining hero and a formidable villain. I give Black Panther 4.6 out of 5 stars.

Alright, thank you so much for reading. If you want to see more of these guys, you can find them in Black Panther, which is in theatres near you now. Please, remember to tune in on Friday for my Character of the Month for January on Jessica Jones. Thank you again for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

Black Panther Theories

Hello, and welcome once again to another edition of my Theories series. If you read the title, you should already know this article in on Black Panther, which releases in the United States this Friday, February 16th. The reportedly 2-hour-and-14-minute movie is set to star Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/ Black Panther, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Stevens/ Killmonger, and Lupita N’yongo as Nakia. Anyways, let’s get into it.

First, even though he hasn’t been credited in the movie, I believe that Sebastian Stan will show up at some point in this movie. For those that don’t remember, in a post-credits scene for Captain America: Civil War, Captain America convinced T’Challa to cryogenically freeze Bucky until they could figure out what exactly to do with him. Personally, I would have loved to see him as a major character in the film, fighting alongside T’Challa, but that role is probably already going to be filled by Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross. Honestly, I think Bucky will show up in an after-credits scene, probably right after he wakes up from cryogenic sleep.

Secondly, I think Killmonger will end up dying during the course of the movie. I understand that he is rumored to show up in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, but why would he seriously show up? What kind of threat would he provide, especially compared to Thanos and his “children”, extraterrestrials with superhuman power even without the Infinity Gauntlet? I suppose Killmonger could be brought back to life by Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet, but what purpose could he possibly serve? He could be used as some sort of macabre message to T’Challa that the end is coming near, but again, why would that be necessary? Thanos is the type to make a grand entrance, and I don’t think he would ever trust his minions with his job after was has happened with Loki and Ronan The Accuser.

Finally, I personally believe that Ulysses Klaue will end up dying during the course of this movie. On top of that, I think he’ll end up being killed by Killmonger. I believe that Killmonger will have a similar backstory in this movie to that of his in the comics, where his father is forced into servitude of Klaue, and his father is executed after Klaue’s defeat, with Killmonger’s family being exiled to the United States. In the comics, this cultivated a hate for both Klaue and T’Challa, and I believe that this will end up being a revenge story for Killmonger.

State of The Marvel Netflix Shows 2018

Hello, and welcome to The State Of The Comic Book Movie Union Series: 2018 Edition: Part 4 of 6, on the Marvel Netflix shows. Fortunately, there are three Marvel Netflix shows to talk about; Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones all having release dates later this year, so we’ll have plenty talk about today. Anyways, without further ado, let’s get to it.

Jessica Jones, specifically the second season, is our first show up. This is the only Marvel show to currently have an exact release date, and that would be March 8th, 2018. The significance of that is March 8th will be the first Marvel Netflix release to be held on a Friday, instead, it will be released on a Thursday. The show is set to return its main cast from Season 1 and will be bringing on Leah Gibson and J.R. Martinez as Ingrid and Oscar, respectively.

Next, we have Luke Cage Season 2. While we don’t have a release date as of yet, best guess saying that it will come out in or around August of 2018 based on previous production patterns from both this show and all of the other Marvel Netflix shows. The main cast from Season 1, excluding Erik LaRay Harvey and Mahershala Ali, will return, along with newcomers Mustafa Shakir, Gabrielle Dennis, and Thomas Q. Jones, with Finn Jones as a special guest, revisiting his role from other Marvel shows as Danny Rand/ Iron Fist.

Finally, we’re here to talk about Daredevil Season 3. Again, while we don’t have an actual release date for this season, we can assume it will release in or around November of 2018 based on previous production patterns from both this show and all of the other Marvel Netflix shows. The main cast from Season 2, excluding Elodie Yung and Jon Bernthal, will be joined once again by Vincent D’Onofiro as Wilson Fisk, and also by Wilson Bethel in an unspecified role.

Alright, guys, thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed. Please remember to come back Friday for my Black Panther Theories. Again, thank you for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

Featured News: January 2018

Welcome once again to another edition of Featured News. First, we finally have a trailer for Ant-Man And The Wasp. Secondly, we’ve got the first teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Finally, we’ve got to talk about T.J. Miller and his ongoing sexual misconduct accusations, and it’s effect on Deadpool 2. So without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Now, first, we’ve got to talk about the Ant-Man And The Wasp trailer. The trailer painted a dark future for Scott Lang and Company after the events of Captian America: Civil War. Team Ant-Man looks to be under attack from all sides in the July film, with them being both on the run from the government from Scott escaped prison by the end of the aforementioned Captain America: Civil War, as well as being targeted by a mysterious figure named Ghost, who seems to possess the power of intangibility as they do in the comics, but the jury’s still out on the character’s true skill set. Ant-Man And The Wasp, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas, is set to hit American audiences July 6th.

Secondly, we have to talk about the first footage from Solo: A Star Wars Story. For those of you who don’t know what Solo: A Star Wars Story is, it is the story of legendary Star Wars character Han Solo before he meets Luke Skywalker and eventually joins the Rebellion. The trailer included glimpses of Beckett, Solo’s criminal mentor, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, Han Solo’s supposed love interest, Kira, and of course, Solo himself. The supposed “space Westen”, starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Donald Glover, will debut in the United States on May 25th.

Finally, unfortunately, yet another beloved actor has been accused of sexual misconduct. This time around, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 star T.J. Miller is at the center of controversy. The actor’s accuser, who has chosen to stay anonymous, has said Miller became violent with her during a sexual encounter, allegedly choking, shaking her, and punching her and the mouth, all, of course, without her consent. Miller has refuted the claims, calling his accuser “vindictive”. Many have called for 20th Century FOX to recast Miller in the upcoming Deadpool 2 and to reshoot his scenes. Even though Deadpool 2 releases in only four months, it is not unprecedented to recast and reshoot in such a short time. When Kevin Spacey was accused of abuse, Ridley Scott removed Spacey from the cast of his newest movie, All the Money in the World, recast Christopher Plummer in Spacey’s role, and reshot all of his scenes in ten days, about 2-and-a-half months before the movie’s December release in the US. FOX, however, has said that they will not be recasting Miller’s role for Deadpool 2, but if the accuser’s claims are found to be true, the writers will have to find a way to either write around or write out Miller’s characters. Deadpool 2, starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Zazie Beets, Josh Brolin, and T.J. Miller, will reach US theatres on May 18th.

State of the MCU 2018

Hello, and welcome to The State Of The Comic Book Movie Union Series: 2018 Edition: Part 3 of 6, on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fortunately, there’s three, yes, THREE Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and The Waspcoming out in February, May, and July of this year, respectively, so we’ll have plenty talk about today. Anyways, without further ado, let’s get to it.

Black Panther is, of course, our first movie of the night. The movie has attracted a lot of buzz ever since it was announced because it is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe to be headlined by a hero of African descent. The movie was actually announced well after Phase 3 was announced because of the character’s successful debut in Captain America: Civil War, in a similar situation to Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film will star Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/ Black Panther, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Stevens/ Killmonger, and Lupita N’yongo as Nakia.

Secondly, we have Avengers: Infinity War, which is essentially the beginning of the end of the beginning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if that makes sense. It will be the first part of the last two movies in the tetralogy of Avengers movies for Phases 1, 2, and 3. I know I didn’t explain it well, but it’s a very confusing timeline of movies. This movie and it’s 2019 sequel, Untitled Avengers Sequel, will be action-packed, full of plot twists, and major character deaths, three things that are central to the comic storyline of Infinity War. The film will star Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/ Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/ Hawkeye, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/ The Winter Soldier, Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, and Paul Bettany as Vision.

Finally, we’ve got Ant-Man And The Wasp, probably my most anticipated movie of the year. It’s not that I’m not looking forward Avengers: Infinity War or Black Panther, it’s just the fact that I loved the original a lot. I went to see Ant-Man four times in the theatres, that’s how much I love the original. This sequel has a lot of potential, especially with The Wasp being included in this adventure, and also because of the villains, Ghost and Sonny Burch. The film will star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/ Ant-Man, Evangeline Lily as Hope Van Dyne/ The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, and Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster.
