Featured News: July 2017

Welcome once again to another edition of Featured News. Our top stories this month will cover a lead executive leaving Marvel Studios for potentially greener pasture, a recent fan-favorite superhero flick gets an official sequel, and some major casting news from an upcoming Marvel film. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Firstly, we have the problem of the absconded executive from Marvel Studios. Jeremy Latcham, Senior Vice President of Production and Development for Marvel Studios, has left the company to join one of it’s rivals, 20th Century FOX. FOX and Marvel have been at war for about 12 years now, in which Marvel was tried and failed to regain the movie rights to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men from FOX. Latcham had been with Marvel since the beginning of 2007, when Iron Man was in production. Latcham will reportedly be joining FOX in the same capacity he last held at Marvel Studios. No word yet on a replacement for Latcham at Marvel Studios.

Secondly, we have the newly- announced sequel. Right after San Diego Comic- Com 2017 ended, Warner Bros. announced that one of this years’ most well liked movies, Wonder Woman, will officially have a sequel. The sequel is tentatively named “Wonder Woman 2”, and sources close to Warner Bros. have leaked that Cold War- era Russia maybe the setting for the film. At the moment, Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins are the only members of the cast and crew to be signed on as of now.

And finally, we have some major casting news coming from Comic- Con that I would have loved to include in my Recap of Comic- Con article,, but I feel it would have gotten much too cramped in that article. Well, during Comic- Con, Marvel Studios announced that Ant-Man and The Wasp would be gaining some key cast members in the form of Michelle Pfieffer, Randall Park, Walton Goggins, Hannah John- Kamen, Laurence Fishburne. Pfieffer will be playing Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp. Randall Park will play Jimmy Woo, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Walton Goggins will portray Sonny Burch, an executive with Cross Technologies. Hannah John- Kamen will play Ghost, a historic Marvel villain. Finally, Laurence Fishburne will play Bill Foster, a professor that works with Ant-Man and Wasp in the comics, and in many incarnations, he is the hero Goliath. Ant-Man And The Wasp will debut in theaters July 6th, 2018.

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Recap

Hello, and welcome once again to another edition of the Blog Of Hell’s Kitchen. Today, we have for you just a quick recap of what happened during San Diego Comic-Con 2017. I plan on simply going through it day-by-day of the event. So, without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Thursday

Most of what happened on Thursday revolved around 20th Century FOX’s panel on Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle. FOX released a brand new trailer for the film, which showed shots of returning members of the cast such as Merlin (Mark Strong), Eggsy (Taron Egerton), Harry (Colin Firth), and Roxanne (Sophie Cookson). The trailer also featured some cast members new to the series, which include Tequila (Channing Tatum), Whiskey (Pedro Pascal), Champ (Jeff Bridges), Ginger Ale (Halle Berry), and the film’s primary villain, Poppy (Julianne Moore).

Friday

Friday was also a somewhat minor day for Comic-Con as well. Marvel TV released a new trailer for The Inhumans, which has been shit on all over by the Internet. Noah Hawley, showrunner for FX’s Fargo and Legion, announced he will begin working on a movie based around Doctor Doom. Dan Stevens, who plays the main character of Legion, David Haller, has hinted in the past days that he may be involved with the Doctor Doom film, potentially playing Doom himself.

From the DC camp, we’ve also heard that Ben Affleck may be exiting the DCEU much earlier than you would think. Affleck has had a great deal of conflict with Warner Bros over his portrayal of Batman, and sources close to the Oscar winner say he is seriously pondering his place in the DCEU after his current contract expires.

Saturday

Saturday was very exciting, with trailers for both Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League debuting to much praise from fans and critics alike. DC Animation announced four new movies; one based after the Batman: Gotham By Gaslight storyline, and one based off the Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay comic, and two movies based The Death Of and The Return Of Superman comics.

The Warner Bros. panel also announced that the Ezra Miller Flash film will, in fact, be titled Flashpoint, as well as announcing that a Wonder Woman sequel will be released on December 13th, 2019, and may be based in the Cold War-Era USSR. Marvel announced that Captain Marvel will feature Skrulls as it’s main antagonists, the film will be set in the 1990’s, and Samuel L. Jackson will star alongside Brie Larson playing a Nick Fury with two eyes.

Sunday

There was almost no noteworthy that happened on Sunday. The biggest story of the day is that during a panel, Jason Momoa reassured a child that Superman is still alive, and that his scenes in Justice League will not just be flashback sequences.

Alright, guys, thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed. Please remember to come back next Friday for my Character Of The Month article for August 2017, which will be based around Ambush Bug. Alright, that has been my time, thanks again for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Review

Hello and welcome back to The Blog Of Hell’s Kitchen. This week, as we wait for updates on San Diego Comic-Con 2017, I have my review on Spider-Man: Homecoming for you all, so without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Let’s start with the big twist that comes in about two-thirds of the way through the film. Peter has been lying to Tony Stark and Happy Hogan about staying to himself in terms of crime fighting. He’s been following The Vulture at this point, and cornered him on a ferry, where Toomes used a alien-tech to split the boat in half. Iron Man saves the ferry, and takes back the technologically advanced suit he gave Peter in the beginning of the movie. Peter goes back to small-time crime fighting for a while, and starts to get more involved with school. He ends up asking Liz, his crush, to the Homecoming dance, and she accepts. As he knocks on her door the night of Homecoming, Adrian Toomes, The Vulture, opens the door. Peter is forced to interact like he doesn’t know Adrian is The Vulture in front of his wife and Liz. Adrian actually drives the two to the dance, and slowly figures out that Peter is Spider-Man. Toomes has Liz go into the dance as he will supposedly give Peter the “dad talk”, but he actually pulls out a gun, and threatens everything and everyone Peter fights for if he tells anyone, or if he interferes with another of Adrian’s illegal transactions. The scene actually sets the tone for the incredibly explosive and brilliant last 30 minutes of the movie in perfect fashion.

I would have to say my favorite character in the movie was Tony Stark. I say that meaning that he probably had the biggest indirect effect on the plot, as in replacing Toomes’ company with the Department Of Damage Control, which ultimately forced Toomes to villainy. I also think that the movie utilized Iron Man’s character in just the right places, as to not overuse the character, if that makes sense.

Overall, I really thinking that Spider-Man: Homecoming deserves a rating of                    4.15 out of 5 stars, or 83% out of 100%.

Alright, guys, thank you so much for reading. Please remember to join me next Friday for my recap for San Diego Comic-Con 2017, and I truly hope there will be a ton of news for me to report. Alright, thanks again for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

San Diego Comic Con 2017 Wishlist

Hello, and welcome once again to the Blog Of Hell’s Kitchen. This week, we have what I would want to see out of San Diego Comic Con 2017. The plan is just to show a quick picture of the show or movie or art inspired by it, what exactly I want, why, and the percentage out of 100 that I think the item has of actually happening, as well as maybe another possibility when it will debut. With that, let’s get into it.

1. Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

Even though most would assume you would put something this big towards the end of the article, let’s start Comic-Con Season 2017 out with some good shit. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is used to debuting a minute to minute-and-a-half teaser trailer made special for San Diego Comic-Con. But of course, this one will be extra special, because it is the beginning of the end for this era for Marvel. The film’s going to be amazing, and I’m sure what this trailer will show will be amazing as well. Plus, we should be able to get a good idea of the plot and contents of the movie, as principal filming will be completed the day this article posts, on July 14th.

Likeliness of this happening at SDCC: 99.99%

Likeliness of an attack from cybernetic bears from outer space:                      0.01% (you never know)

2. The Punisher Release Date

Ah, The Punisher, my most anticipated property of 2017, but I just can’t seem to get a fucking release date for. None of my sources, no rumblings, no hints, zero, and that’s all I’ve wanted since March of last year. At this point, I think it’ll end up releasing on November 17th, which is when Justice League releases, so it may be a ploy to take away valuable opening weekend customers for the DCEU. But, Netflix could wait until The Defenders releases on August 18th to announce them together, but I think the former may be a little more likely.

Likeliness of this happening at SDCC: 60%

Likeliness of this happening when or after The Defenders debuts: 40%

3. Some DCEU Casting Announcements

Holy shit, does this needs to happen. There’s so many lead roles for DC movies coming up in the next three years, or for movies that need to get scheduled. To name a few fan favorites, we have John Constantine and Swamp Thing for Justice League Dark/ Dark Universe, Poison Ivy and Catwoman for Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing and Batgirl for their respective solo movies, The Flash’s Rogues Gallery for his solo film, Billy Batson and Shazam for his/ their solo movie (please God, let him be Armie Hammer), Black Canary (who is all but confirmed to be announced at SDCC) and Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, just to name some of the main characters from each movie. Obviously, if they were to announce castings for all of these characters, it would be fucking mania, but it’s definitely possible than at least a handful of these will be fulfilled.

Likeliness of more than 6 of these castings happening at SDCC: 25%

Likeliness of between 3 and 6 of these castings happening at SDCC: 60%

Likeliness of less than 3 of these castings happening at SDCC: 5%

Likeliness of none of these castings happening at SDCC: 10%

4. DCEU Film Announcements

Obviously, Justice League will end up deciding what happens with the DCEU, but I really wouldn’t be surprised to see maybe Gotham City Sirens and Suicide Squad 2 announce here at SDCC. I would say The Flash and Man Of Steel also announce, as well as The Batman. Maybe we hear some news on new directors as well.

Likeliness of at least one new film release announced at SDCC: 75%

Likeliness of more than 1 new film release announced at SDCC: 25%

Alright, guys that has been my time, thank you so much for reading. Remember to come back next Friday for my Spider-Man: Homecoming review, and then the week after for my SDCC 2017 recap. Alright, thanks again for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Theories

Hello, and welcome once again to another addition of my Theories series. If you read the title, you should already know this article in on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which releases in the United States this Friday, July 7th. The film is set to star Tom Holland as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/ The Vulture, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, and Zendaya as Michelle, just to name a few. Also, I want to let you know I’m going to start titling each theory. Anyways, lets get into it.

Theory #1: Tyne Daly’s Character Will Have A Lead Role In The Damage Control Show

Alright, first up, I’m thinking that Tyne Daly, who plays Anne Marie Hoag in the movie, with end up being kind of like the Phil Coulson, in the way that I think Hoag with crossover over to both an ABC/ Marvel and into the movies. The evidence for this is pretty clear. In the comics, Hoag was the main director for Damage Control for the vast majority of the company’s run in the comics, only losing control of the company a few times to Walter Declun. A Damage Control show has been in the making for a while, and an introduction similar to what Agents Of SHIELD got from Coulson being in Avengers would be just enough to get it off the ground.

Theory #2: A Sinister Six Tease In The End Credits

Well, according to my sources, this isn’t so much of a theory as it is a fact, but these guys were barely involved in the production of said scenes, and all of their involvement was near the beginning of filming, so this could have changed since then. What they said was, in a formal email “Michael Mando’s character (which they refused to name at the time) will have an end-credits scene in a prison with Michael Keaton’s Vulture in which Mando’s unnamed character will tell Vulture that ‘I’ve got some boys on the outside that would love to meet him and slice his throat. I head a rumor you know who he is.'” Since Mando has been revealed a Mac Gargan/ Scorpion, this is an obvious tease at the Sinister Six, of which Gargan and Vulture are members of in the comics.

Theory #3: Aunt May Finds Out About Peter Being Spider-Man

This has also been confirmed by someone at Marvel. He said, in more of an informal conversation, “Aunt May, at the end of the film [Spider-Man: Homecoming], walks into Peter’s bedroom as he’s changing out of the Spider-Man suit. She sees him take the mask off, and yells ‘What the f-‘, just as the credits begin to roll.” This is obviously a joke towards Marvel movies beginning family-friendly, but it also signals something that generally comes much later in the comics for Spider-Man, which is Aunt May knowing Peter’s secret identity. I believe this theory more than the last one, because the conversation we had was within the last six months, after filming wrapped in Atlanta.

Alright, thanks for reading. Remember to read our San Diego Comic Con 2017 Wishlist, which comes out on July 14th, as well as our Spider-Man: Homecoming review, which debuts on July 21st. Once again, thank you so much for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Expectations

Hello, and welcome once again to another edition of my Expectations series. If you read the title, you should already know this article in on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which releases in the United States this Friday, July 7th. The film is set to star Tom Holland as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/ The Vulture, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Zendaya as Michelle, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Donald Glover as Aaron Davis, and Bokeem Woodbine as Herman Schultz/ The Shocker, just to name a few. Seriously, their cast list absolutely ridiculous, it’s about 30 stars deep. Anyways, let’s get into it.

Well, Spider-Man: Homecoming looks like it will make a decent amount of movie. I would guess that it will end it’s worldwide theatrical run at or slightly below $800 million. This is in range of Spider-Man 2, which made $783.9 million over its theatrical run. My reasoning for this is that while Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has been lauded by Marvel fans far and wide, it probably won’t be until Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (which is set to release on July 5th, 2019) that the Spider-Man will begin to approach critical mass with its fan base. Now, Spider-Man is, of course, one of the biggest Marvel characters, which is most of my reasoning for it earning so much for its first movie, but I just feel even a character as huge as Spider-Man need at least one solo film to make a larger box office draw.

As of July 4th, 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently the holder of a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an overall rating of 93%, but I’m not sure if it will stand for much longer. I’m thinking the Rotten Tomatoes rating, once all of the reviews are in, Spider-Man: Homecoming will still have that Certified Fresh rating, but I’m thinking it will cash in with an 85% rating. 85% is just below what the original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man had, which was rated at 89%. I think eventually the MCU Spider-Man movie may get to the level of the Tobey Maguire films, and may even surpass them, but not quite yet.

Alright, that has been my time, hope you enjoyed. Theories for Spider-Man: Homecoming will come out this Friday, but I’m going to move the Review to Friday, July 21st, because I want to a San Diego Comic-Con Wishlist on July 14th. I’ve also just gotten another writer to work on this blog. They’re a great writer, but as of now, I’m just easing them into the writing process I have, and hopefully, they can start writing in the next few weeks. I’ll still hold most of the writing load for now, but I’m starting to get a schedule for us together, and hopefully, we can start to share the Expectations, Reviews, Theories, Featured News, while we start to do our own opinion articles. I would still keep What I Would Do, CBMs Of Earth 2 and the HDCU, but hopefully, they would start their own editorials and fancasts. But, now, I think we at Blog Of Hell’s Kitchen may start to shift away from just doing Comic Book Movies and TV, and focusing on all movies. And with the addition of another writer, we may even start a podcast. At this point, many more options have opened up, and the future looks bright. Anyways, thanks for reading, and remember, have a nerdy day.
